Life can become overwhelming very quickly. Anxiety, grief, pain, conflict, financial worries, and fear can leave us searching for something solid to hold on to. Scripture Life Savers is designed to make the wisdom and comfort of the Bible easier to reach in those moments.
Each Life Saver begins with a passage from the King James Version, followed by Put Simply, which expresses the same message in clear, everyday language, and ends with a short Life Saver that is easy to remember when you need it most. This isn’t meant to be a Bible study or theological commentary.
Think of it as biblical first aid—Scripture for the moments when you simply need help getting through what is in front of you.

When You’re Feeling Anxious or Worried
Philippians 4:6–8
King James Version
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Put Simply
Don’t be anxious about anything.
Whatever is worrying you, talk to God about it. Tell Him what you’re afraid of and what you need. And while you pray, remember the ways He has already cared for you, and thank Him.
Then trust God with what you’ve given Him. His peace—greater than anything you can create on your own—will protect your heart and your mind through Jesus.
And when your thoughts start drifting back toward fear, choose what you allow your mind to dwell on. Think about what is true, good, right, pure, beautiful, admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise.
Life Saver
Give your worries to God. Trust Him with the outcome. Then turn your mind toward what is good.
When You Can’t Sleep
Psalm 4:8
King James Version
“I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.”
Put Simply
I can lie down peacefully and sleep because God is watching over me and keeping me safe.
Life Saver
God is watching over me. I can rest in His care and sleep in peace.
When You’re in Physical Pain
2 Corinthians 12:7–10
King James Version
“And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”
Put Simply
I asked God again and again to take away my suffering, but He told me, “My grace is enough for you. My strength is greatest when you are weak.”
So even when I am weak and suffering, I can rely on Christ’s strength instead of my own. When I am weak, He makes me strong.
Life Saver
I may be hurting and weak, but I am not without help. God’s grace is enough for me, and Christ gives me strength when I have none of my own.
When Someone You Love Has Died
John 11:25–26, 35
King James Version
“Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?”
“Jesus wept.”
Put Simply
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me will live, even though they die. And whoever lives and believes in Me will never truly die.”
And when Jesus stood with those who were grieving someone they loved, He wept with them.
Life Saver
Jesus understands my grief. He weeps with me, and He promises that death is not the end.
When You’re Fighting with Someone You Love
Colossians 3:12–14
King James Version
“Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.”
Put Simply
Treat each other with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
Be patient with each other’s faults, and when you have a grievance, forgive one another just as Christ has forgiven you.
Above all, choose love, because love holds everything together.
Life Saver
Be kind. Be patient. Forgive as Christ forgave you. And above all, choose love.
When Someone Is Making Your Life Difficult
Romans 12:17–21
King James Version
“Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”
Put Simply
Don’t repay someone’s bad behavior with bad behavior of your own. Do what is right, and as far as it depends on you, try to live peacefully with everyone.
Don’t seek revenge. Leave justice to God.
Even when someone treats you like an enemy, respond with kindness. Don’t let their wrongdoing turn you into someone you don’t want to be. Overcome evil by doing good.
Life Saver
I can’t control how others treat me, but I can control how I respond. I will leave justice to God, choose peace when I can, and overcome evil with good.
When Something Terrible Has Happened to You
Psalm 34:17–18
King James Version
“The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.
The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
Put Simply
When I cry out to God, He hears me and comes to my help.
When my heart is broken and I feel crushed by what has happened, God is especially close to me. He will not leave me alone in my suffering.
Life Saver
God hears me. God is close to me. My heart may be broken, but I am never alone.
When Someone Is Bullying You
Psalm 56:3–4
King James Version
“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.”
Put Simply
When I am afraid, I will trust God.
I will remember what God has promised and put my trust in Him. Because God is with me, I don’t have to live in fear of what another person might do to me.
Life Saver
When I’m afraid, I will trust God. He is with me, and I don’t have to face this alone.
When You’re Worried About Money
Matthew 6:31–34
King James Version
“Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.”
Put Simply
Don’t worry about whether you’ll have what you need. Your heavenly Father already knows what you need.
Put God first and trust Him to provide. Don’t carry tomorrow’s worries today.
Life Saver
God knows what I need. I will trust Him with tomorrow and focus on today.
When You’re Afraid of Getting Older
Isaiah 46:3–4
King James Version
“Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb:
And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.”
Put Simply
God has carried you throughout your life, and He will not stop as you grow older.
Even when your hair turns gray and your strength fades, He remains the same. He made you, He will carry you, and He will be with you.
Life Saver
I may grow older, but God does not change. He has carried me this far, and He will carry me still.
